Welcome to YMSL Alpine Chapter!

Young Men's Service League is a non-profit organization that initiates and encourages young men and their mothers to pursue philanthropic involvement in their community and provides an opportunity to enhance mother/son relationships.

Our mission statement: Assist, serve, and support those who are in need in our community, develop leadership skills among our membership, and promote mother-son relationships

Launched in April 2014, YMSL Alpine is the 4th YMSL chapter in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our members are from the communities of Portola Valley, Woodside, Menlo Park, and the surrounding areas.

Education: The boys have regular meetings, each with a specific theme and involve people in the community to serve as speakers.  The themes include: practical life skills, social skills, civic responsibility and philanthropy. A strong emphasis is placed on respect and responsibility.

Leadership: Each member is required to hold a position every year, for example: president, vice president, secretary, life skills, leadership, writer or photographer. From these experiences, they learn valuable leadership lessons about public speaking, organization, persuasive oral and written communication, decision-making, planning and time management.

: At the heart of YMSL is getting out in the community to do meaningful work – often meeting and helping people in the community who are less fortunate or physically not as capable.  YMSL boys strengthen their own personal relationships by becoming aware of new needs and issues within the community.  They also strengthen their bonds with fellow YMSL members as they collaborate and work together.

Membership is a 4-year commitment beginning freshman year of high school, or 3-year commitment for our incoming 10
th grade class.

Members serve a minimum of 20 hours per year of community service, with a majority of the hours served together as a mother/son team.

All mothers and sons are required to participate in leadership positions or committee assignments.

Boys are required to attend 5 of 7 boys yearly meetings and mothers are required to attend 3 mothers meetings per year.
